Loving cats?
Is it about loving cats, when Persians have to wear a baby bib ...
Have you ever looked on shows or in the home of some exhibitors?
Longhair cats have to wear a bib like babies, that they do not
slobber their ruff, which had been trimmed with great skill,
and the ruff does not become wetted. Large cat industries make money
out of it, as those bibs are not cheap. One may find them in
different brands and colors, pleated, with laces, and so on.
Why do longhair cats slobber their ruff and chest, a question,
which might be interesting for further investigation.
 | Could it be eventually a problem with the bite? |
 | Is the cat probably upset by all those sprays and powders? |
 | Is it unnatural, when the ruff becomes wet when drinking? |
Oh yes, the dream of the ideal beauty grows some strange
blossoms.

Is it about loving cats, when cats, which shall be exhibited,
are treated with all those conditioners ...
Those sprays and shampoos are not cheap, one may find them with
color and without it.
"The Bio-Grooming Shampoo Ultra Color Shampoo Concentrate:
A coconut oil base formula enriched with protein, Ultra Color is a
tearless, non-irritating, high quality shampoo specifically developed
to intensify black, charcoal, blue and other dark colored coats.
Special pearlescent brighteners add brilliance and sparkling accents
to the hair."
This is an extract from an advertisement of one out of hundreds of
those products. Name of the product changed by redaction.
It is said that the coat color of red or red tabby cats will be
intensified by such colored shampoos.
 | Is this not a devout self-deception wanting to be blind for a
maybe not so intensive color when using those sprays? |
 | Should not the breeding program be checked seriously, how to
breed more intensive and brighter colors? |
Some longhair cats, but also shorthair cats, shall have an airy and
upstanding coat.
And therefore conditioners are used and sprayed excessively.
In white and bi-colored cats the white areas shall be without
yellow or otherwise colored stain.
And also here, it is said so, a spray will help.
 | Has anybody ever asked, why for example the ruff or the front
legs are stained? |
 | Might it be possible that the cat rubs its eyes more
frequently due to an eye problem? |
But, what is good for humans, is also good for cats (?).
Those shampoos and conditioners - interestingly enough - do exist
as bio-products. It is easier to sell Bio.

Is it about loving cats, when the ear tufts are stripped off ...
Some breeds shall have small ears with rounded tips. Ear tufts are
unnecessary attributes disturbing the optic impression and the ears
might appear more pointed because of them. And thus the ear tips are
trimmed with finger nails and tweezers and the naturally growing tufts
are removed.
I do still remember very well one proposal forwarded to the general
assembly of one federation to forbid that trimming of the ears. This
proposal was mocked, dismissed and rejected.
 | Has anybody ever asked, if those ear tufts might have a natural
function used in orientation? |
 | Probably it might be necessary to question the breeding program,
why it is almost impossible in some breeds to produce rounded ears?
|
 | Or should the standards not only be based on beauty criteria,
but be based more on basic natural functions a cat has due its
nature? |

Is is about loving cats, when cats are powdered ...
 | It is said that the color in diluted colored cats becomes more
pastel and becomes paler by using powder. |
 | It is also said that ghost markings (tabby markings) become more
diffuse and even will disappear by using powder. |
Something must be wrong in the breeding program, if cats are dark blue
instead of being light blue, if cats are hot cream (cream with a red
tinge) instead of being pastel cream.
Oh yes, the poly-genes are simply too many, as the word Poly already
indicates, and selection can be difficult sometimes.
But one starts to realize, what a real surprise is, when looking into
the pedigrees, as there are almost all colors present in the pedigree.
It is more important that the pedigree is written in red letters - the
more champions the better, and they could be even more.
Also bi-colored cats and white cats are not left out when it comes to
use powder.
 | It is said that the yellow stain below the eyes and besides the
nostrils, but also the yellow patches on the front legs will be
covered when using a wet cotton pad with powder. |
I always question myself, if I would like to undergo such a procedure.
The answer is a very clear 'No'.
 | Why do cats have yellow stain below their eyes? |
 | Why are there yellow patches on the front legs? |
The standard of the Persian and the Siamese are quite similar, when it
comes to their ears.
"What a non-sense! A Persian shall have small ears set very wide
apart and low on the skull. A Siamese has large ears, which ..."
And how does the standard of the Siamese read further, and which
interpretation is imposed onto the standard?
The standard of the Siamese is reasonable, the ears of the Siamese
shall prolong the outer lines of the head. In reality a Siamese of
today looks different from its standard, the ears are bent outwards as
much as possible and are placed outwards and low on the skull.
But what is the problem with the powder here? Unfortunately, it is
sometimes a big problem!
 | If a Persian has its ears placed just not so far apart on its
head, mother nature is assisted with pleasure by putting some powder
into the ears. Thus the cat holds its ears lowered aside
because it is irritated. |
 | And now you do understand, why the standard of the Persian and
the Siamese are so similar, because also in the Siamese some powder
is put into the ears, if the Siamese's ears only follow the outer
lines of the head and do bend aside so extremely. |
"But the Siamese and the Persian are an extreme breed!"
 | Counter question: Are there extreme things in nature just per
se? |
 | Are functionality and body structure not always harmoniously
balanced to each other? |
Loving animals sometimes grows very strange blossoms, when the Ego is
concerned.

Is it about loving cats, when eye brows and whiskers are trimmed
and cut off ...
Eye brows are disturbing the impression, they are much too long and
the head does not appear to be round enough.
 | And thus front and cheeks have to be trimmed and cut. |
 | The fur is trimmed and powdered, as it is said the paler areas
will give the impression of being rounder. And therefore eye brows
are superfluous and disturbing. |
Has anyone ever raised the question, that eye brows are tactile
hairs, what is called vibrissae?
Does everybody really know that vibrissae belong to the primary organs
of sense?
Also here I remember quite well on a general assembly where it was
mocked and discussed endless about a simple proposal that every
cat must have whiskers.
One of those remarkable arguments was that by nature every cat has
four legs and that fact would also not be stated extra in the
standards.
But those mocking and discussing people have not informed themselves
about one simple thing, that experiments with animals, whose eyes had
been removed, have shown very clearly that the whiskers and vibrissae
substituted quasi the sense of vision - of course, such experiments
with animals shall be rejected sharply.
It is not natural in all breeds that they have whiskers.
In the Sphynx there are two types, one type with whiskers and one
without whiskers. Exactly that is a case, where selective breeding has
to be done by taking out all those cats without whiskers from the
breeding program and neuter them.

Is it about loving cats, when eye drops are administered ...
I always thought, by nature cats are very careful animals about
cleaning themselves. One can watch them cleaning themselves
permanently.
But some cats seem not to care much about cleanliness, and therefore
mother nature must be assisted.
There exist eye drops which are said to make the eyes more shiny
and brilliant:
"The Cats Vision Lubricating Cataract Eye Drops,
Effective, Safe Treatment,
Aids Cataracts, Irritation and Dryness"
An extract how those eye drops are advertised. Name of the product
changed by redaction.
Thus one can see cats of all breeds whose pupils are larger than
normal in day light or spot light.
Quite strange, one should expect that the pupils are narrowed to a
small slit.
"It's the excitement!", one can hear, and then one faces the
problem not to be a veterinary to be able to proof that something is
wrong here, and then having the problem not to be able to see the eye
color correctly, because the iris is only a small ring.
There exist many brands of eye drops, and they are part of the
standard equipment of so called experienced exhibitors.
 | Is it possible that the cat might have a problem with its eyes
... |
 | Is it possible that the eye color might not be as dark and
intense as it should be ... |
 | Is is possible that the breeding program probably should be
questioned ... |

Beauty has its price ...
Counter-question: Every price?
Is it really so important for the Ego that the cat wins? Of course,
it is wonderful to be different from all those anonymous grey people,
at least on the weekend, and to stay on the stage. In many pictures
from shows one has to search for the cat on the arm of the exhibitor
like in a rebus, or one can see the cat from its best side, the back
side, loosely draped over the shoulder.
 | Are cats mannequins? |
 | Are not human behavior patterns and society patterns projected
uncritically onto the cats? |
Paying also willingly the price that natural attributes, needed by
the cat when using its senses, are simply removed?
And how do the judges comment on that?
 | Is it really esthetic and beauty when cats are trimmed and
powdered? |
 | Is it really esthetic and beauty when the natural oily film is
removed from the hairs by all those shampoos and conditioners? |
 | Is it really esthetic and beauty when the pupils of the eyes are
dilated with some eye drops? |
Is it really esthetic and beauty, if and when ...
